PEACE Honors SPSA Fellows

SPSA Past President and incumbent Convention Chair Manuel Cacdac, MD, and his wife, Fe Cacdac, MD, both recognized Fil-Am medical leaders in the United States, were awarded by the Philippine Economic and Cultural Endowment a Humanitarian Award during the PEACE meeting in Mason City, Cincinnati, Ohio, July 25, 2009, for their dedicated involvement in charitable endeavors in the Philippines, like in medical missions for Manny and in Gawad Kalinga program for Fe. Manny has been a neurosurgeon in Terre Haute, Indiana, since the early 70s, and, together with Fe, he has been very active in various Fil-Am medical organizations in the United States. Manny’s personal pet mission in the Philippines is his hydrocephalus shunt clinic, which has benefited indigent Filipino children afflicted with the disease.


Each year, the PEACE Award is given in one specific category. On June 14, 2008, SPSA Past President and Editor Emeritus Philip S. Chua, MD, FACS, FPCS, and his wife, Farida Quiambao Isip Chua, MD, and their family of eleven physicians, were bestowed the PEACE Family Achievement Award in Atlantic City, New Jersey, presented by the Philippine Ambassador to the United States, the Honorable Willy Gaa. Philip is Chairman of Cardiac Surgery at the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital, Chairman of the Filipino United Network (USA), and past president of the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA). Farida is a retired pediatrician. Their five children are all physicians in the United States and four of them are married to physicians also.
